The company and their wish

We Are Reasonable People (WARP) is a Rotterdam-based development and design agency specializing in human-centered digital solutions. They challenged my team as first-year CMD'ers to design a companion app for an automated cat feeder designed specifically for nursing homes, enabling residents to enjoy the mental health benefits of pet ownership without adding to nurses' workload or residents' daily concerns.

My main focus was the styleguide and the feeding schedule page.

The impact of the final result

The final prototype gives nursses and resdients clear insight into feeding schedules and portion control. As a bonus, the app also integrates with the feeder’s built‑in camera, enabling users to capture photos and videos of their cat directly through the app and automatically store them in an in‑app gallery.

Defining text styles in the appropriate phase of the design process to optimize its possibilities

Making the prototype even more inclusive for nurses and clients by adding more colour contrast, veriable font sizes and features that fit their way of working

Paper protyping

Step 1: Sketches and annotations on paper.
Step 2: Converting the sketches into paper prototypes together with a home-made lasercutted phone.

designing a styleguide

Colour Pastel woody and leafy colours were chosen to enhance the feeling of calmness and reassurance.
Template screens A pure white background is chosen to maximize the contrast, again for optimal visability. A navigation bar is applied for all screens, so users that are less digitally fluent will not get lost.
Components I challenged myself by learning about Figma's components and variants, resulting in a easy-to-use and flexible prototype.
Typography Simple sans serif fonts were chosen for optimal visability for both nurses and clients.

Final prototype

Homepage In the homepage, admins (nurses) can asighn customized editing permissions to users (clients), allowing varying levels of responsibility and capability.
Feeding scedule Thans to all the feedback I gained through two testing sessions, I ended up with a screen similar to the alarm-setting screen. To provide exact insights over time, admins/users can also switch to a calander and timeline layout.
