About me

I am an enthusiastic and caring Communication and Media Design student, ready to share the joy and connection that design brings.

Personally, I experience that joy and connection quite some time now. During my teens, I hovered from project to project, for example a detailed charcoal portrait of someone I appreciated in my life or wholesome Christmas cards for my family. The smiles on their faces became my driving force. And each new design experience, each new skill and connection only expanded my creative toolbox.

Despite my creative spirit, I ended up at the BSc Clinical Technology at the TUDelft in 2020, because I had a vision of helping others through innovating healthcare technologies. The idea was wonderful - and I did obtain my Bachelor - but I realised that technology was not my favourite way to do that, it was by designing.

So, with all the wonderful lessons in the back of my mind, I now design with one main goal: to bring happiness and warmth to the receivers.

"So you love designing, but what is your second passion?"

Oh, don't get me started! In the hours between all the Figma and Adobe work, I love working hands on with…

My motivations

Significance
Independency

Nothing motivates me more than the possible difference that I can make for others. This is not only one of the main driving forces in my private life, but also at work.
As a newby in the design world, I am still creating a work flow and exploring the tools. Therefore, I'm not yet asking money for my work. Nevertheless, when my friend asked me to design his flyer, I took a very thorough approach: in a large Figma file, I iterated on a logo and a flyer while simultaneously maintaining a style guide. Of course, I loved getting to know the designer in me, but the happiness on my friend's face when he saw my progress was priceless.

I work best in a group-solo setting. For me, this means that tasks, together with their responsibilities, are divided in a group meeting. After this meeting, a deadline is set so that everyone can work out their own schedule.
I worked like this when I was in the Yearbook Committee at my student association. Thanks to this system, I was able to combine my work with my other priorities, such as doing sports and seeing my friends. This variation had a positive effect on my mental wellbeing and therefore on the quality of my work.

My Qualities

Designing with passion for others
Leading with structure
Engaging with people

Clients are not just clients, at least not for me. I design to make a difference, which requires a full assessment. I tend to do this assessment thoroughly with a high level of curiousity.
For example, when my mom asked me to turn her video's into a promotion movie for her seminar, I interviewed her elaborately about the goal of the video, her personal experience with her customers and what she thinks that her customers would love to see.
The final video was posted on her social media and got a lot of positive reactions!

Thanks to my time at the Technical University, I've learned to quickly analyse and structure information. Therefore, I love to lead a team whilst being an all-round team member myself.
During teamwork, I often find myself grabbing a piece of paper to summerize everyone's progress or opinions on the matter. I also take initiative to repeatedly zoom out to the bigger picture: are we still designing the right thing?
I feel very comfortable in this role and it warms my heart that I also get positive feedback on this way of working.

I'm a people-person, which is a big advantage for me as a human-centered designer.
This translates to me not being shy to ask people for their feedback. This can be feedback regarding my design, but also regarding my personal workflow. I am still developing my ability to translate this feedback into clear action points, but during my first year at CMD, I have already experienced significant personal growth in this area.
